Glass Works

Painting on glass is a fun endeavor particularly leading up to the holidays. You can paint on glasses, bottles, vases, windows - you name it! I lead wine glass paint events if you ever want a personal lesson! Painting on glass is a little different than painting on canvas. See below for some tips and tricks...

Tips and Tricks

Enamel paint is the best choice for glass as it adheres better than acrylic. To seal it afterwards, bake your glassware in an oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. The glassware must heat up and cool down with the oven or it will break! As I understand, if you do not intend to put it in the dishwasher, there is no need to bake it. Just display and enjoy!

Keep layers to a minimum

You want to work in a single layer to the extent you can so that the picture is visible from both sides of the glass! In this respect it is very different from painting on a canvas where the detail comes from building up the paint layers.

Painting from a picture

It is super easy to paint from a photo by printing out a small photo and taping it inside the glass. Keep your focal point steady as you paint as the picture dimensions will warp a bit due to the curvature of the glass, if you turn the glass while painting.
